By Dr. Mercola

'The above video (next page) features John Dromgoole, owner of The Natural Gardener,1 an educational organic gardening center in Austin, Texas. According to Dromgoole, Generation X'ers have become a driving force of his business. He's seen a near 500 percent increase in vegetable, herb, and seed sales, for example, compared to previous years.

This is a very dramatic increase indeed, speaking to the rapid evolution of organic gardening—or perhaps it would be better to call it a rapid U-turn, back toward the age-old food production practices that we know works, and produces optimal benefits not just for you, but also for the environment.

This new wave of consumers, who are increasingly concerned about the quality of their food, are flocking to organic gardening centers to buy their produce and to learn how to grow their own food. Dromgoole's nursery also teaches people how to address problems like pests and weeds without resorting to chemicals.'

Who Owns Organic Now? The Corporate Takeover of Organics by the Big GMO Food Conglomerates

‘In 1995 there were 81 independent organic processing companies in the United States. A decade later, Big Food had gobbled up all but 15 of them.

Corporate consolidation of the food system has been largely hidden from consumers. That’s changing, thanks to tools such as Philip H. Howard’s widely circulated “Who Owns Organic?” infographic. Originally published in 2003, the chart provides a snapshot of the structure of the organic industry, showing the acquisitions and alliances of the top 100 food processors in North America. The chart empowers consumers to see at a glance which companies dominate the organic marketplace.'

'Giboulot claims the pesticide is ineffective and damaging to pollinating insects such as bees, and insists the disease can be fought via more natural means.

How Walmart’s New Mass-Produced Organics Line Could Threaten Organic Farming

'Mark Smallwood remembers gardening with his grandmother in Ohio when he was a kid. They used organic farming techniques because, to his grandma, that was just how gardening was done.

“I don’t think [my grandma] could pronounce the word, ‘chemical,’” he said in an email. “Everything we did was organic.”

Today Smallwood is the executive director of the Rodale Institute, which works to create new sustainable and organic food production models for the world to follow. Smallwood has watched organic farming evolve and grow over the years, mainly via dedicated small-time farmers in pockets across the country. When Walmart announced plans to open a new line of super-cheap organic foods, Smallwood’s reaction was mixed.'

'If you are purist when it comes to nutritional value of nuts, it may come as a shock to discover that most of the world’s almonds are heat treated. A little known secret in almond production and processing is that irrespective of the status of standard, raw or organically produced almonds, the world’s largest producer is required, according to The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to pasteurize all almonds. This means even organic and raw almonds shipped in North America are exposed to heat treatments.'

Earth Balance Betrays Consumers With False Non-GMO and Organic Claims

'Earth Balance is a company that claims to "take the health of our planet just as seriously as we take the wellness of our customers." They also assert this position with a Non-GMO commitment believing in "environmental protection and agricultural methods that work in harmony with nature." When we investigated Earth Balance, we found these statements to be purely superficial marketing tactics designed to deceive consumers into purchasing foods manufactured with ingredients which completely contradict their corporate philosophy statements.'

The organic illusion

http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/images/organicnot.jpg

"I was recently"GMOS in USDA certified organic foodin the farm wars. "it's always a very short time. Why? Because no one wants to hear it. It destroys the illusion of "asylum" for GM foods. It is necessary that we think bubble, created by us, that we will be in the shop and pick up a can of "USDA certified organic" food and feel safe.

It's frustrating for us, because it demands that we take responsibility for our eating habits, instead of having to drive these decisions public body whose sole purpose is to dominate and control. Eat at home with our cans and jars and boxes with false "organic" certification and feel good about us that we made the right decision, and they took the posture of food security. "
