'In the US, the hibiscus plant is most widely known for its beautiful flowers, but this plant actually offers unique health benefits that have been valued around the world since ancient times.

I used to have many of them but replaced them with fruit trees and berries, which are far more easily edible. However, I still enjoy hibiscus tea and regularly consume it from the far more convenient extracts.

When the petals of the hibiscus flower fall off, deeply colored red calyces (cup-like structures) grow into pods that resemble flower buds. These red calyces are used to make hibiscus extract and a brightly colored (and delicious) red hibiscus tea (sometimes called "sour tea").'

DIY Homemade Vanilla Bean Extract

'This must be one of the most simplest recipes you can do! Pure 100% vanilla beans extract is expensive, and with the same amount of money you can buy all the ingredients and make it yourself, pure, natural and organic! They make great gifts too!

I personally like to place the organic vanilla beans in a large bottle(s) because you will need to shake the bottle(s) every week (1 -2 per week), for the entire duration of storing. Now if you make many small bottles in advance, that would be a lot of shaking vs having one or two large bottles, you can always transfer them into small decorative bottles for gifts later.

I get about a pound of organic vanilla beans which is an incredible amount of beans. Recipes seem to recommend anywhere from 3 to 6 beans per cup of alcohol. I used 6 and still had enough beans to make this recipe 5 or 6 times over, I like to put more for that dark rich taste.'

'A new turmeric study published in Cancer Letters is paving the way for a revolution in the way that we both understand and treat cancer. Titled, "Targeting cancer stem cells by curcumin and clinical applications," U.S. researchers evaluated the primary polyphenol in the Indian spice known as curcumin for its ability to target cancer stem cells (CSCs), which are believed to be at the root cause of tumor formation and malignancy.

Whereas conventional models of cancer assumed that the majority of the cancer cells within a tumor possess self-renewal capacity to differing degrees, the CSC model proposes that, "[T]he initiation, maintenance, and growth of a tumor is driven by a minor population of cancer cells termed cancer stem cells (CSCs)," and that "These CSCs undergo continuous self-renewal and differentiate to heterogeneous cancer cells, yielding new tumors recapitulating the parental tumors, while the majority of cancer cells lack self-renewal capacity." '
