'University of Utah researchers have shown that the ways in which you are supported, can actually have significant bearing on your overall cardiovascular health. The findings announced by Psychological Science reveal that when both partners perceive having mixed feelings about the support they get from each other, each partner’s levels of coronary artery calcification (CAC) tend to be particularly high. 

 “There is a large body of epidemiological research suggesting that our relationships are predictors of mortality rates, especially from cardiovascular disease,” explains Bert Uchino, psychological scientist of the University of Utah. “But most prior work has ignored the fact that many relationships are characterized by both positive and negative aspects -- in other words, ambivalence.”'

'Leicester University researchers have found a cure for ovarian cancer in an aromatic gum resin obtained from an African tree. Researchers say that AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid), a chemical compound in the resin, has cancer-killing properties. It has the potential to destroy ovarian cancer cells.


Frankincense (gum resin) is the resin of the Boswellia sacra, a small tree found across Africa and Arabia. The resin is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and is widely used in folk medicine to treat asthma, skin conditions and gastroenteritis among others.

Previous studies have shown the efficacy of AKBA as a potential medicine for treatment of many cancers (colon, breast and prostate). This is the first study to identify its ability to fight ovarian cancer.'

Study: Inhaled Cannabis Mitigates Parkinson’s Disease Symptoms

'New research reveals that consuming two or more cups of coffee each day reduces the risk of death from liver cirrhosis by 66%, specifically cirrhosis caused by non-viral hepatitis. Findings in Hepatology, a journal published by Wiley on behalf of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, show that tea, fruit juice, and soft drink consumption are not linked to cirrhosis mortality risk. As with previous studies heavy alcohol use was found to increase risk of death from cirrhosis.'

New Study Links GMO Food To Leukemia

New Study Says Honey Beats Antibiotic Prescription Drugs

'There has been plenty in the news about superbugs, strains of bacteria that have become resistant to antibiotic drugs because of their overuse.  But there has not been much offered as a solution to this problem until now.  A new study is showing that honey can supply the best antibiotic protection without any unwanted side effects.

“The unique property of honey lies in its ability to fight infection on multiple levels, making it more difficult for bacteria to develop resistance,” reported lead researcher Susan M. 'A new study out of China has determined that people who consume raw garlic as a regular diet were 44% less likely to suffer from lung cancer.

Researchers at the Jiangsu Provincial Centre for Disease Control surveyed the participants on their diet and lifestyle habits, including garlic consumption and whether or not they were smokers. Even among those who smoked, the garlic consumption reduced lung cancer risk by 30%. The study was published in the Journal Cancer Prevention research.'

A large new Northwestern Medicine study ties the increasing consumption of supposedly healthy vitamin rich oils -- canola, soybean and corn -- to the rising incidence of lung inflammation and asthma. Antidepressants No Better Than Placebo: JAMA Study

'A study just published in JAMA Jan 5, reported that SSRI antidepressants are no better than placebo for most cases of depression. The authors reviewed 30 years of data and concluded that "the benefit of antidepressant medication compared with placebo may be minimal or nonexistent in patients with mild or moderate symptoms".

 Of course, this is old news, and reminds me of the famous scene in 1942 film, Casablanca, where Captain Louis Renault declares, " I am Shocked, Shocked ... to find gambling here....Here is your winnings... Oh thank you."

Better than Placebo for Severe Depression

 I should add that the study found antidepressants work better than placebo for severe depression. This is not surprising, since virtually any psycho-stimulant can be found useful for the most the severely depressed patient.'
